Here is my beloved antique secretaire in a little niche next to the fireplace.
And the pictures above it. (And Tessa, my cat who lives on the mantel because Muppet the Yorkie drives her nuts!)
Because this room is mainly my husband's "man cave", I tried to give the room a gentleman's club feel, with more masculine touches such as this leather chair. (And the "Boo" pillow.)
I also tried to camouflage his first love, the tv, with my "stuff". (Didn't work, did it?)
I have lots of stuff - I'm not very good at paring down.
And I love it all. I guess that's why I'm so partial to English Country; my style is very busy and cluttered like that.
Here we have the only source of natural light in the living room, a very offset window that faces south and is blocked by the garage's shadow in the afternoon. In an attempt to brighten the room up, I painted it sunshine yellow. It really isn't as bright as it appears in the pictures, but it's a very happy color.
The room has an unusual layout. The sofa faces the tv wall and pretty much ignores the mantel. (Notice the indented pillow where Muppet sleeps soundly through all of Mom's nonsense.)
You can see from the indented pillow on the other end of the sofa that Muppet often sleeps there too.
The butler's tray table (with a cleared space on the bottom left so the king can put his feet up - after all, it's his castle)
My hutch
Full of stuff, of course
I recently recovered this chair, and it may be my favorite thing in the living room now.
Guess you can tell I love color! I tried more "natural" colors in here - latte, off white, cream. But the room just seemed to fade into nothingness, given the lack of light.
Thank you for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteWonderful furniture, I love that secretary! Gorgeous colors! Thanks for sharing with us at TTF!
ReplyDeleteI love all the plaid/tartan you have sprinkled around the room. And, I'm in love with the large candlesticks on the mantel. Great tour.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Jacki, I love colour myself and love the colour yellow on walls.
ReplyDeleteTalking of loving, I do love your chair with the nesting birds material.... it looks so comfortable.
We had a little King Charles Spaniel who was part of our life for 14 years, so it was so nice to see your pictures of King Charles Spaniels.
Your home is a delight, with so many interesting things to see.
Best Wishes to you,
Daphne

ReplyDeleteYour hubby's "man cave" is so handsome. LOVE all the tartan touches, especially the tartan lined secretary. Did you use fabric or paper to line it? I have a secretary very similar to yours that belonged to my mom. Visiting from Our Home Away From Home.

Here's my secretary from Fall 2011. It's a little different now, of course.
